I have a physical disability:

I am 48 years old. I have had a steady job for over 20 years. I have an injury at work and am unable to return to the job I had for many years. I really liked that job, was comfortable with doing it and had many friends there. I have now been out of work for over 18 months, and still have a lot of doctor appointments related to my injury. I have been “released “ to return to working, but based on the limitations I have now my previous employer cannot take me back. What do I do now! It is quite scary to image learning something new and starting over.

I am often in a lot of pain and sometimes have to use a cane to help me walk. I probably need a job where I can sit down a lot of the time, but also get up and move around a bit.

Money has been tight since I have been off work, luckily I can still drive and barely afford my car- hopefully it won’t need repairs anytime soon. I want to have help exploring other careers, I have a solid work history and bet I would have a nice resume if I only know how to write one. And interviewing, I haven’t been on a job interview in over 20 years! I sure would like some help brushing up on those skills.

I wonder what type of information I would need to tell a new employer about my injury? My spouse and my kids are supportive of my finding something to do again each day. They tell me that I seem depressed and think it would be good for me to work again, but just what will I do and who can help me figure it all out?

I need help to:

Write a resume
Find a new job
Talk to an employer about my limitations
