I have a traumatic brain injury:

I am 20 years old and have a traumatic brain injury. Two years ago, the night of my high school graduation, my friends and I were going to a party when a drunk driver hit us. I was ejected from the car and suffered severe head trauma. After having numerous brain surgeries, I am finally back on my feet but suffer from some short-term memory loss.

I have had several jobs in the last year. I find it easy to apply for jobs and go on interviews. I love to talk and tell my story. I have had several jobs since my accident, but I have lost most of them within the first couple of months. Most recently, I got a job working at a local restaurant as a waitress. I was fired after six weeks because I made too many mistakes. I messed up a lot of food orders and had some trouble counting money. When places hire me, they don’t know about my head injury because I don’t tell them. They don’t understand why I can’t remember. I wish I could have someone help me come up with ways to learn my job better and help my bosses understand how to teach me the jobs.

The job choices in my area are limited because I have not yet attended college, although I would really like to. I really want to work to save up money so that I can go to college some day and earn a degree. What kind of jobs would I be able to do? How can I be successful?
