I have a visual impairment:
I am 24 years old and have been working in a restaurant washing dishes for five years. When I was 18, I was diagnosed with a degenerative visual impairment. My eyesight has been slowly getting worse, and I am almost completely blind.
I have been having a very difficult time at work operating the dishwashing machines, and an even harder time examining the dishes for cleanliness. People who I work with have noticed that the dishes aren’t quite as clean as they should be. One time I mistook ammonia for dish detergent because I couldn’t read the bottles. Luckily, the smell was so strong that we were able to catch the error before the contaminated dishes were used.
I am afraid that I am going to lose my job and will not be able to find another. I really enjoy working, as well as the people I work with, but am afraid I will mess up again and get fired. I don’t know who to turn to or how I can get some help.
I need Help!
